History of Mampally

The Mampally Holy spirit Church situated on the banks of the Arabian sea in the south west of Kerala state of India.
Even though historical records are not available many foretold stories there preserved to be proved. It is set to be in the middle of the 14th century, a taj prayer hall was here in the sea shore. At that time 7 families were here who followed Christianity. Before the advent of St. Francis Xavier, Christians were here. It is unknown how they slipped into Christianity or by whom it was carried out.
The famous historian `sho hammer’ pointed out that in AD 1545 St. Francis Xavier constructed church in Mampally which was dedicated to the Holy Spirit. The Latin Catholic in Kerala is not from a single race. It is a mixture of converted people from different societies and races. People they converted to Christianity to escape from caste system, the historical records are also authorizing these facts.
In the 18th century by the fall of the Portuguese in Kerala all of the Portuguese churches came under the dutch. In 1790 the Dutch government handed over all the authorities to the Varapuzha Diocese. But the people of Mampally and Anjengo rerouted to Syrian Diocese. But People were unfamiliar to the Syrian system of worship. They wanted to go back to Kochin Diocese. So they took the help of Veluthambi Dalava, the then chief of Travancore. Velu thambi dalava wrote a letter to the Bishop of Varappuzha. Because of the primacy of Mampally Church Varappuzha Bishop was reluctioned to give up. The bishop of Varappuzha called the attention of Lord Micelles the then president of Madrass. Later Mampally became a part of Trivandrum Arch Diocese.
The church of Mampally was a spiritual architecture of portugese culture. That old station at Mampally lost forever in 1992. The then Parish priest Rev. Fr. E. Wilfred put forward the idea of constructing a new church which was completed and inaugurated on 13th August 1995, thus the new church was build and blessed by most rev. Arch Bishop Dr.M Soosai pakiam.

A Christmas Gift

Is there such a thing as “the perfect gift”? At Christmas time, shoppers go in search of it. Everyone wants his or her gift to be just what that receiver has always wanted. The things that people really want to make their lives better, can’t be bought from a store. I’m talking about good health, peace of mind, financial security, and long life to name a few especially thru our coastal huts.
There is a gift that can provide the missing elements of our lives. Best of all, anyone who knows where to find it can tell you where to get it—free of charge. It sounds too good to be true, but this is one gift that delivers what it promises.
God presented this perfect gift to the world over 2,000 years ago. His son, Jesus, was born in a stable in Bethlehem to a humble carpenter and his betrothed, a virgin named Mary. (Remember, most of his friends were Fishermen), There was no get-together to celebrate the blessed event, only a star casting down its light from the night sky.
During the Christmas holiday, those who are Christians celebrate Jesus’ birth as the beginning of something wonderful. Without his birth, there could not have been a victorious death at Calvary and eternal salvation for every believer. Jesus’ life upon this earth was short, but he left behind a lifetime of teaching.
Remember the thing, mentioned earlier: good health, peace of mind, financial security, and long life? God provides for them all through his Son. I can sleep better at night knowing that He is taking care of me. I also trust my beautiful family to Him, too. Whenever we hear our children pray or see our husband/wife delivering the sermon at church on Sunday, We should grateful for Jesus Christ in our lives.
Would you like to know where to find God’s greatest gift? He’s as close as your knees are to the floor. Tell him that you want him to become a part of your life. Ask him to forgive your sins and make your heart and mind whole again. The greatest gift of all is now yours.
Let us take this Christmas as an opertunity to make a peaceful life in our home, and to make a non-alcoholic nights and days, and let's give him a warm welcome not only to our crib, but to our heart too.
